Do I need to be screened for breast cancer?

Screening can increase your chance of survival with breast cancer if you catch it early. For women 50 to 74 years old who are not at high risk, screening every other year is recommended. Women over 40 may want to talk to their doctor about when to begin screening.1 Breast cancer screening is done using a mammogram.
