ABOUT US

Saving Lives!

Welcome to FirstLadiesHealth.com, the official website of the First Ladies Health Initiative (FLHI), a grassroots 501c3 organization which strives to provide yearly educational symposiums, health day and walk/run events for FREE life saving health screenings in disparaged minority communities. We also conduct various other types of multicultural outreach, advocacy, and marketing communication services.

FLHI partners with healthcare providers, health volunteers, politicians, various media and service oriented organizations in their communities to offer large-scale wellness and other outreach platforms to minority populations through local churches, community events and more.
The First Ladies Health Initiative, title sponsor – Walgreens, was started in 2008. Tracey Alston, President & Executive Director and granddaughter of a Preacher, used her knowledge from her upbringing to develop FLHI. She identified ten First Ladies (Pastor’s Wives) to help destigmatize HIV/Aids within the African-American community by bringing awareness into Chicago’s Black Churches. This grassroots organization now has chapters in four markets (Chicago, Los Angeles, Northwest Indiana, and Sacramento/Oakland). The Chicago market boasts 60+ participating First Ladies and more than 200,000 Chicagoland residents have been screened and educated on preventable, chronic diseases and cancers. Over 200 First Ladies across four states represent FLHI.

In 2019, FLHI was featured on the cover of American Journal of Nursing, in 2016 it received an “Award of Excellence” via Public Relations Society of America and was crowned “Public Health Champion” by the Illinois Department of Public Health.

Overall, the organization has screened approximately 300,000 individuals. Major healthcare providers, health volunteers, health organizations, corporations, media and more have partnered with us. In 2015, the organization joined the CDC to promote a print/digital national HIV/AIDS message. The health day event has now expanded into a Walk-Run which takes place via Chicago Park District at Burnham Park and similar type park districts in other markets.
